Thanksgiving, 1954!

These great photos - thanks to Mona-Lou Amy! - were taken inside Molloy's cabin (Jim & Fran Molloy pictured above) on Thanksgiving, 1954. One of many Amy-Molloy holiday get-togethers.

Dave, These are splendid pictures! I wonder, do you still remember the day they were taken? Rick Jacobel

Rick, I specifically remember the weather, cold and overcast, so we spent most of the day waiting inside for the massive turkey to emerge from the oven. Outside the cabin the lake was in hibernation, but inside the atmosphere was decidedly alive and festive.

And today the great treat is seeing again the images - the happy faces, even the all the handiwork and carpentry that made our cabin... special. It was amazing what my father could do with a simple hammer and a can of beer. And my mother with a giant turkey and a dry martini.

About the date, brother Jim said I should explain how I arrived at exactly "1954" (pics were undated). In short, Jim looked 15, I looked 13. Jim's head is bigger - bigger than mine and bigger than Pete & Bill's combined. Jim was entering manhood, careful about his appearance even out in the middle of the woods. He had also lost interest in snake hunting and turtle snatching, turning instead to girl chasing and sudden dating. While me and my other brothers observed Jim's new habits and rituals as would any young, budding anthropologists.

Note: 1954 was also the year Jim started using a razor.
